The launch of the 2015 EirGrid Ulster U21 Football Championship took place last night, Monday 9 March, at the Merchant Hotel Belfast, in the company of players and management from each of the competing Counties.

Speaking at the launch, Ulster GAA President Martin McAviney said, “The Ulster GAA Under 21 Championship has established itself as of the premier GAA competitions in Ireland, and this year once again promises to be an exciting battle between nine excellent teams, all of whom stand a chance of success in what promises to be one of the most open competitions we have ever organised. Attendances for the Under 21 Championship have been on the increase over the last 3 years and I look forward to another successful and exciting competition. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new competition sponsors EirGrid and I look forward to working with them to further raise the profile of this excellent competition.”

Commenting on the new sponsorship, EirGrid’s Chief Executive Fintan Slye stated, “Our business spans the length and breadth of the island of Ireland and EirGrid is proud to see our name attached to the hotly contested GAA Football U21 Ulster Championship. As noted at our sponsorship announcement, EirGrid’s role is to manage and develop Ireland’s electricity grid, ensuring that young people like the participants of this championship, have a bright future both on and off the field. We are sure that the players of the nine counties representing Ulster will certainly help to brighten up the 2015 Championship as a whole.”

The EirGrid Ulster GAA U21 Football Championship will begin on Wednesday 11 March as Derry will host Down at Celtic Park.
