The 2016 Ulster Club Championships were launched on Wednesday 5th October in the Tyrone GAA Centre at Garvaghey.

The Ulster Club Football and Hurling Championships were launched together along with the Ulster Ladies Football and Camogie Championships. Over 25 clubs from across all four codes turned out representing every grade of the 2016 Championships.

Michael Hasson, President Ulster GAA, Kathleen Woods, Ulster Camogie and Eileen Jones from Ulster Ladies Gaelic were joined by Tommy Traynor from AIB/First Trust Bank to officially launch this year’s Club Championships.

Addressing those in attendance, Ulster GAA President Michael Hasson said:

It’s a pleasure to officially launch the 2016 AIB Ulster Club Championships here at the Garvaghey centre – right in the middle of the province. I am delighted once again to have our colleagues from Ulster Ladies Gaelic and Ulster Camogie here at this joint event, as the ladies footballers and camogs are present in numbers alongside our footballers & hurlers. We at Comhairle Uladh will promote greater integration in our games where possible. 2015 saw around 45,000 spectators attend Ulster Club Championship games and we hope to see large turnouts as families in every parish continue to get behind their team in pursuit of Ulster Club Championship glory. To conclude, it is great to see such a strong turnout of clubs at tonight’s launch, from all of our codes. I wish all players, management teams, and their families an enjoyable 2016 Club campaign.”

Ulster Camogie Chairperson Kathleen Woods said: “I am delighted that Ulster keeps leading the way in terms of integration with the female codes and tonight’s great attendance is another great example of that. I congratulate each of the clubs on their respective county championships victories and wish them well in their provincial campaigns’’.

Speaking on behalf of Ulster Ladies Gaelic, Vice President, Eileen Jones commented: “The opportunity to represent your county in the Ulster Club Championships provides a fantastic occasion for clubs at all levels. We have got a very exciting draw in the Ladies Gaelic Championships and I look forward to some tremendous games in the coming weeks.
