‘Every week is Volunteer Week in the GAA’

June 7th, 2017

In this Volunteer Week, Ulster GAA President Michael Hasson has thanked the thousands of people who volunteer for the GAA across Ulster clubs, counties and Provincial Council.

President Michael Hasson said, “The GAA is driven by volunteers at all levels.  From our club groundsmen, to county board members right up to an Uachtarán Aogán Ó Fearghail – they are all volunteers who give their time freely for the development and love of our association.

“This week marks Volunteer Week, and Ulster GAA takes this opportunity to thank the thousands of people, all ages, all backgrounds, and all abilities who volunteer for the GAA.  Without their contribution our Association would simply not exist so in a way every week is volunteer week for the GAA.

“We are always keen to encourage more and more people to get involved in the GAA and there are hundreds of volunteering opportunities across clubs, counties and with Ulster GAA. Through volunteering in the GAA, people get the opportunity to make an important contribution to their community and to our sport.  It also helps develop volunteers’ skills and knowledge which can be transferred into working and family life.

“Ulster GAA is extremely proud of our co-ordination of the highly successful GoldMark Programme which focuses on young GAA volunteers aged 14-24 years, giving them official recognition for their efforts.  We also have a very comprehensive training programme for supporting our volunteers and empowering them.

“As an Investing in Volunteers Organisation Ulster GAA takes this opportunity in Volunteer Week to thank you to all those who volunteer in any capacity with the GAA.”
