Donegal win Buncrana Cup Final

May 8th, 2018

Donegal 1-12 Tyrone 1-11

It was a close encounter when neighbouring counties Donegal and Tyrone contested the Buncrana Cup Final on Sunday with a large crowd of supporters in attendance to cheer on the two sides at Buncrana GAC.

Donegal got of to a great start going four points up but Tyrone settled and they came right back into the game. Approaching the half-time mark just two points seperated the teams.

However the Tír Conaill contingent got the crucial score on the stroke of half-time when a well worked move was expertly finished to find the back of the Tyrone net leaving the score 1-06 to 0-04 at the break.

There was no let up in the second half as both teams went on the front foot.  Donegal succeeded in keeping Tyrone at arms length with the margin to three to four points for the majority of the half.

Tyrone kept driving and they were rewarded when a neat move resulted in a penalty been awarded after a foul in the small square. The penalty was perfectly dispatched but unfortunately for Tyrone it was the last kick which left the final score 1-12 to 1-11 in favour of Donegal to reclaim the Buncrana Cup since their last win in 2013.

Thanks to the Buncrana Club and all the Officials who were involved in a very memorable occasion.
