U16 Girls Integrated Schools Blitz

December 4th, 2012

Ulster GAA in association with Ulster Ladies Gaelic held the inaugural U16 Girls Integrated Schools Blitz recently in Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Cookstown.

Seven Integrated Colleges from across the province took part: Oakgrove Integrated College (Derry), Sperrin Integrated College (Derry), Slemish Integrated College (Antrim), Newbridge Integrated College (Down), Erne Integrated College (Fermanagh), Integrated College Dungannon (Tyrone) and Drumragh Integrated College (Tyrone).

Games were played 9-a-side and for many, this was their first time to play in a competitive Gaelic Football match. Despite this the standard was very high with games being played in a competitive, sporting manner. Integrated College Dungannon and Sperrin qualified from their groups to compete in the Final.
After a highly competitive affair Integrated College Dungannon, ran-out eventual winners on a 1-05 to 1-04 scoreline.

This was the first year of this initiative with the girls and given the great success it is hoped to extend the programme in the future, by hopefully adding more teams and introducing different age groups.
