Derrynoose GAC World Record Attempt
On Saturday 12th June Derrynoose GAC and all participants will attempt to break the world record for the most participants for the 12 hour 100m relay.
The current world record is held by Cavan GAA set on 20th June 2009 where 1,986 people ran that day – our aim is to have more than 2,000 people taking part.
The event is a fundraiser for Derrynoose GAC with Action MS being the beneficiary charity. All clubs can fundraise on top of this event – click on the Registration/Contact page, send us your details and we will tell you how this can be done.
Basically the event is as follows:
- A relay baton is constantly exchanged from one person to another for 12 hours
- Each participant is only allowed to take part once during the event. Each participant can run, walk, wear fancy dress, do it naked – it doesn’t matter as long as the baton is moved from one end of the marked out track to the other and back again for the 12 hours.
- Persons of all physical abilities can take part – if you want more information or clarification click on the Registration/Contact page and we will get in touch with you.
- Aged 10 or over you are very welcome to take part
- Participating clubs are encouraged to wear their club colours during the event.
- On the day The Order of Malta are providing First Aid cover should anyone need it and refreshments are available from our community hall.
Under the umbrella of sport and friendship we look forward to a fun day where we will break a world record and regardless of what happens in the future we can all say that on Saturday 12th June 2010 I became a world record holder.
