On Wednesday 16th October Ulster GAA in partnership with Donegal GAA and Letterkenny IT commenced their Diploma in Performance Coaching Award. This Level 3 Diploma Course was developed in partnership with Ulster GAA and accredited through Open College Network Northern Ireland (OCNNI) in it’s capacity as a national awarding body based in Northern Ireland.

The 22 coaches assembled in Letterkenny IT were drawn from all over Donegal, Derry and Tyrone. Many are currently involved with their clubs and County Academies with their counties prepared to source training opportunities to enhance their skills.

This exciting initiative has been designed in times of economic hardship and unemployment, the aim being to provide GAA volunteers with the opportunity to develop new skills and competencies that will build coaching capacity within the clubs and county. It will also be of benefit for these coaches when seeking employment.

The course will run for 12 weeks until January 2013 and on submission of the various coursework modules the coaches will be recommended for accreditation.
