Down DENI coaches recently organised a very successful training day for their teachers in Saval GFC.

On previous courses that were held for teachers the focus was primarily on handling, kicking, and striking through the Family of Games. This time the focus of the day was shifted with more detailed progression in warm up activities. From this topic we progressed onto Educational Gymnastics. This was using the floor and other equipment such as hoops and hurdles to show basic progressions for children but at the same time challenging the teachers and allowing them to come up with various sequences that could be used back in their schools.

During the day we also delivered a series of handling, kicking, and striking games. The teachers were shown practical games but emphasising the use of QUESTIONING through our games. It allowed them to think and installs confidence in them to come up with the answers instead of us always telling them the answers. This was highlighted by quite a few teachers on the day.

The afternoon session was when our teachers got the first taste of dance, through creative and action songs. This was very relaxed and all teachers participated and joined in with their fellow professionals which made it more enjoyable for all teachers and the coach. A lot of it was coach led and then teachers were given freedom to express themselves and create their own dance.

The day was informative, active and really enjoyable for both DENI coaches and our teachers. Overall the day was a huge success for all involved. We had 18 teachers in attendance which we greatly appreciated, and many thanks to all the principals for releasing their teachers.
