As part of the GAA Handball Schools Initiative, an ever increasing number of schools are erecting both indoor and outdoor One-Wall facilities which has seen a surge in interest in the game at Primary and Secondary level across the province.

Ulster GAA have played a key role in this surge in growth and are currently building for the future by undertaking an ambitious schools project in conjunction with GAA Handball Ireland. Ulster GAA’s Active Club Officers run a Provincial ‘One-Wall’ schools event for 1st & 2nd Year Boys. A series of qualifier tournaments result in the top school teams from each county blitz qualify to the provincial finals where they will compete against some of the top handballer’s from each county and claim the provincial title.

The 2016 Ulster finals took place at St Ciarans Ballygawley on Wednesday 16th March with, Dean Maguirc, St Patrick’s Armagh, St Patrick’s Cavan, St Louis Ballymena, Virginia College and Red High Downpatrick all competing for the title. Virginia and St Patrick’s Armagh reached the final for the first time and after both double games the match had to be decided on a sudden death play off game which Virginia won.

Overall the competition has been running successfully over the past 4 years with 20 schools taking part. The ladies finals are scheduled for Friday 22nd April with over 11 teams entered to date.
