New Hurling Club in Benburb

February 21st, 2017

Dúiche Néill, An Bhinn Borb is a newly-formed Hurling club based in Benburb in the Blackwater valley.

The vision the Club has set for itself is to ensure that Hurling is accessible to all children in the local communities, such as Benburb, Blackwatertown, Eglish, Moy, Tullysaran, Collegland, Grange and Annaghmore.

Currently, the Club are in the process of running an initial six week indoor-training programme in Tullysaran Community Centre on Friday nights, with the intention to run outdoor-training sessions once the six week session ends.

Children from P1-Year 8 are catered for at the training with two Ulster GAA coaches joining the indoor sessions.

Club chairperson Liam Kelly, who hails from the hurling stronghold of Kilkenny said:

“Already we have seen huge numbers and success in our first few weeks of training with 58 very talented kinds being registered on our first night with more new kids showing up every week. It has been fantastic to hear the great feedback from parents.”

Liam’s comments have also been echoed by Declan Sherlock, Regional Hurling Development Officer at Ulster GAA, who commented on the huge strides that have been achieved in such a short period of time:

“With an experienced committee already in place, plans are well underway for the next phase of the development of the Club.”
