Ulster Club League Update

February 16th, 2017

Last year’s Ulster Intermediate Football Club League winners Loughmacrory.

Coleraine Eoghan Rua are the early leaders in this years Ulster Senior Football Club League.  The Derry side have opened Group A with three wins from three, and are in pole position to claim a semi-final spot.  They’re followed by county neighbours Dungiven and Glenullin who both have two wins from three after Dungiven edged their clash last week 0-13 to 2-05.  Tyrone sides Galbally and Strabane both have one win apiece and they’ll be looking for home wins against Dungiven and Coleraine respectively this weekend to stay in the mix for a top two finish.

On the other hand, Group B is a much closer affair with Ballinascreen, Claudy, Coalisland and Wolfe Tones Derrymacash all picking up a win apiece to date.  Indeed only reigning Down county champions Kilcoo have yet to get off the mark.  Things should become a little clearer after this weekend when those four sides on two points all face each other, with Ballinascreen taking on Coalisland and Wolfe Tones travelling to Claudy.

The semi finals are scheduled to take place on Sunday 12th March.

In the Intermediate League, last years winners Loughmacrory have made a strong start to the defence of their title registering three wins from their opening three games.  However, alongside them are Tyrone neighbours Owen Roes, Leckpatrick who have three wins to date following their win over Glack of Derry last night.  The two top sides meet in Garvaghey next Wednesday night which should decide who tops the group and gets the automatic semi-final place.

Group B also has an unbeaten Tyrone side leading the way, with Moortown St Malachy’s on six points, and a win over Loughshore neighbours Derrytresk this weekend should be enough to seal a semi-final place.  Behind them there is a real scramble for second place with Derry sides Craigbane and Lissan, Killinkere of Cavan and the aforementioned Derrytresk all on one win a piece.

Group C is equally tight with three sides locked on four points at the top of the table.  Foreglen of Derry remain unbeaten with two wins from two but have fellow county men Drum and Belfast side St Brigid’s alongside them at the summit.

The Intermediate league sees the Group A and Group B winners progressing directly to the semi-finals on Sunday 12th March with two quarter final ties a week earlier on Sunday 5th March.
