Eric Saunders Retirement Function

eric-saunders-presentation3.jpgThe Ulster Council was delighted to attend the recent retirement function in honour of Professor Eric Saunders hosted by SportNI. Professor Saunders retired as Chairman of the Sports Council in December past; Eric joined the Sports Council in 1995 and in 1999 was appointed Chairman.

He is originally from Scotland and moved to live in Belfast in 1972 where he joined the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, during which time he held a number of positions including Director of Studies in PE and Recreation and later Professor of the Schools of Leisure and Tourism, a position which he held until 1994 before joining the Sports Council.

Ulster Council President Tomas O Dalaigh paid tribute to Eric for his contribution to sport and Gaelic Games and he presented Eric with a Tyrone Crystal Lamp in grateful appreciation for his work with the GAA over the years.

The Ulster Council would like to extend their best wishes to Eric in his retirement.
