From Albania to An Riocht

February 5th, 2010

edmond-kali“My club is the best ever. I can’t speak highly (enough) of them, I love the GAA”.

You might think these words are from a typical gael but in fact they are from Albanian Edmond Kali at the recent O’Neills Ulster GAA Coaching & Games Development Conference in Cookstown.

Edmond was one of the An Riocht representatives at the event, where he listened attentively to all of the speakers.

“I got a lot out of it and will go back to pass it on to my club”. Edmond also got Mickey Harte’s autograph and admits that his favourite player is Marty Clarke, now that he’s returned home, to the Kingdom.

He ended up in Kilkeel, South Down, via London and has fallen in love with the place and the GAA.

“People in the GAA make foreigners seem so welcome. They have been fantastic to me. I understood early on that it’s about the family. It’s the people, what they try to do for youngsters, and the community. That’s all that matters”.
