Galls Prevail in Semi-Final Thriller
AIB All-Ireland Club SFC Semi-Final:
St Galls (Antrim) 1-15 Corofin (Galway) 1-11 (AET)
St Gall’s will play Kilmurry-Ibrickane in the AIB GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Club Championship final on St Patrick’s Day after an enthralling 1-15 to 1-11 semi-final victory over Corofin at Parnell Park on Saturday night.
Gall’s, the Antrim champions, were inspired by a superb performance from CJ McGourty, who kicked a remarkable 1-9 of their total, including four vital points in extra-time.
The sides finished level on 1-9 apiece after normal time after Gary Sice had levelled the game with a dramatic 62nd minute point.
However, the Galway inter-county star was sent off in the first period of extra-time and Gall’s went on to dominate the game, kicking a flurry of late points to seal the win.
Gall’s had dominated the first half of normal time, as CJ McGourty fisted an 11th minute goal, but Kieran Comer hit back with a fortuitous three-pointer for the Galway men just before the break to leave his side trailing 1-5 to 1-2 at half-time.
Comer found his range from frees and Alan O’Donovan also kicked three second half points as Corofin levelled the game at 1-7 apiece in the 49th minute.
Gall’s had Anthony Healy sent off for a second yellow card, but when CJ McGourty struck a beauty from play with a minute left on the clock, they looked like they were on the way to Croke Park.
However, Sice sent the game to extra-time before his dismissal turned the game in Gall’s favour, as Seam Kelly’s late point gave the Antrim men a four-point win.
