Saffron Hurlers into Quarter-Finals

July 19th, 2010

All-Ireland Hurling Senior Championship Qualifier:
Antrim 1-17 Dublin 0-19

An injury-time point from Karl Stewart sent Antrim into the quarter-finals of the GAA All-Ireland Hurling Senior Championship for the first time since 2004 as they beat Dublin by 1-17 to 0-19 at Croke Park on Saturday afternoon.

Despite Dublin leading by 0-18 to 1-9 with 20 minutes left in the game, the Saffrons pulled off a fine comeback to take the spoils,

The first half was tight, as the sides were level at half-time, 1-7 to 0-10, PJ O’Connell with Antrim’s goal. Before that, Dublin had looked in control, Alan McCrabbe showing up well.

With McCrabbe in fine form at the start of the second half, Dublin began to pull away, eventually taking their lead to the six-point mark, before Antrim dug deep to find the resolve to get themselves back into the game.

As full-time neared, it looked as if the 70 minutes would not have been enough to separate the two sides, but Stewart was there to send over the clinching point for the Glensmen.
