Videos from Ladies Football Finals
Tyrone and Donegal Ladies footballers were both in action yesterday as they competed for the TG4 Ladies Senior and Intermediate Football Championships respectively.
For Donegal, full forward Yvonne McMonagle was the star of the show as she bagged 2-5 from play to guide her side to a 2-12 to 0-16 victory over Waterford in the Intermediate decider.
Donegal manager Michael Naughton described how much this victory meant to Donegal people:
“This is huge for Donegal football. You saw from the big numbers in the crowd that travelled to support us and I know from the increase in clubs in the county that success breeds success, so this will be a great help”.
Donegal captain Aoife McDonnell, who plays club football for Bredagh in Belfast and also for UUJ talked of the strength of Ladies Football in Ulster:
“Ulster ladies football has been going well for the last few years without picking up much silverware but hopefully this is the start of something”.

Unfortunately, Tyrone could not complete an Ulster double as they were beat 3-16 to 0-9 by Dublin in the Senior Final.
However, reaching the final was still a tremendous achievement for the Red Hand Ladies, and Co-Manager Niall Colton expects them to be back in Croke Park in the near future:
“The girls worked tirelessly to get this far and although it’s hard to take, the foundations are there for the future of Tyrone ladies football. We’ve always been the bridesmaids, never getting to the big day, but this was our first All Ireland Final and mark my words – Tyrone will win an All Ireland some day.”
