Cavan claim Ulster U21 Title
Cadbury Ulster U21 Football Championship Final:
Cavan 1-10 Tyrone 0-10
Cavan have been crowned Cadbury Ulster GAA U21 Football champions after a 1-10 to 0-10 defeat of Tyrone at Brewster Park, Enniskillen on Wednesday night.
The throw-in was delayed by more than 10 minutes due to the larger-than-expected crowd of more than 5,000 supporters.
And they didn’t have long to wait for the first goal, as Niall Murray hit the back of the net for Cavan within 10 seconds of the whistle.
That goal helped Terry Hyland’s side to a 1-5 to 0-4 half-time lead, with Gearóid McKiernan adding two crucial points.
The Red Hands, as expected, came back in the second half and points from Ronan O’Neill and Niall McKenna reduced the gap.
However, with Jack Brady in excellent form from placed balls, Cavan always kept their noses in front and a late Patrick King point sealed their first title in the grade since 1996.
Cavan will have little time to bask in the glory of the win, though, as they play Wexford in the All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday.
