Cavan to face Galway in U21 Final
Cadbury GAA Football U21 All Ireland Semi-Final:
Cavan 1-10 Wexford 0-8
Cavan will play Galway in the Cadbury GAA Football U21 All-Ireland final after Saturday evening’s semi-finals.
Cork were surprisingly beaten by Galway at Cusack Park, Ennis, where a late goal from the boot of Michael Boyle gave the Tribesmen a 1-11 to 0-12 win over the Munster champions.
At Parnell Park, Wexford’s fairytale run was ended by Cavan, who made light of the three-day turnaround after Wednesday’s Ulster final win over Tyrone to record a 1-10 to 0-8 win.
Boyle was Galway’s match-winner, netting a late goal to knock the Rebels – who were warm favourites after beating Kerry by 22 points in the Munster final – out of the competition.
Cork appeared on course to return to the final when they led by 0-11 to 0-7 in the second half, but when Young Footballer of the Year Aidan Walsh was forced off through injury, Galway narrowed the gap and then struck for the decisive goal.
Cavan, fresh from winning their first Ulster title since 1996, looked a little sluggish in the first half, but they still went in level at 0-4 to 0-4 at the break against the Models.
Shortly after the restart, though, Niall McDermott scored the only goal of the game, before dominating the final quarter to win by five points in the end.
