Armagh Hurlers shock Down
Ulster GAA Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final:
Armagh 0-14 Down 1-10
Armagh’s hurlers have beaten well fancied Down to see them reach the county’s first Ulster GAA Hurling Championship final since 1946.
Late points from Ruairí McGrattan and Conor Corvan managed to cause a massive upset at Casement Park.
Down made the better start with the star man Paul Braniff scoring three first half points as his side led at the break by 0-7 to 0-6.
It looked to be the same old story when the Mourne men grabbed the only goal of the game midway through the second half through Gareth Johnson.
But Armagh did not give up. Free-taker Gaffney (0-7) and McGrattan were hugely were influencial and Kieran McKiernan and Michael Lennon chipped in with fine performances, both of whom stepped up from the U21 side that reached the Ulster GAA Hurling U21 Championship final.
Those points from Gaffney, McGrattan and Corvan proved vital and it now sets up a decider against reigning county champions Antrim.
