Sun Shines in Armagh for Camogie Finals

June 30th, 2011

The sun shone all day long in The Morgan Athletic Grounds in Armagh for a bumper packed day of Camogie action for the Ulster Senior, Intermediate and Junior Finals.

Ulster Senior Camogie Final: Antrim 3-9 Derry 2-7

A nail biting Ulster Senior Hurling Final saw Antrim hold on for a deserved victory over a tenacious and battling Derry side at the Morgan Athletic Grounds, Saturday.

Though five points separated the teams at the final whistle there really was never a puck of the ball between these two sides who by their spirit and skill on the field more than showed that Camogie is truly alive and well in Ulster.

In the end it was that bit more guile and experience that helped Antrim over the line – guile in that their defence was rock solid all afternoon – and experience in that when it mattered most they put their chances away efficiently.

Ulster Intermediate Camogie Final: Armagh 6-22 Cavan 0-6

Armagh were crowned Ulster Intermediate Champions on Saturday when comprehensively accounting for Cavan at the Morgan Athletic Grounds in Armagh.

This final was over to all intents and purposes after 15 minutes when the home side led by 2-7 to 0-2 and from here Armagh never looked back with it was a case of damage control after that for Cavan.

Ulster Junior Camogie Final: Tyrone 3-20 Monaghan 1-7

In a commanding performance at the Morgan Athletics Ground in Armagh on Saturday, Tyrone claimed this year’s Ulster Junior Camogie Championship final with a comprehensive victory over a Monaghan. From the off Tyrone asserted their dominance and always were in control of this game.

Tyrone’s lethal half forward line of Rafferty, Shona O’Hagan and Orlay Foley contributed the majority of those scores and were tearing apart the Monagahan defence at will with deadly accuracy a feature of their play.

A great day out was had by all, and the showcase of Ulster Camogie was magnificent in the newly refurbished Morgan Athletic Grounds.
