St Marys PS Mullymesker – Sports Factor
Over the last few weeks St Mary’s P.S. Mullymesker have been taking part in Sports Factor with Ulster GAA coach Owen Mooney.
The children, teachers and classroom assistants from P2-P4 came together for each session.
The focus of the three weeks were as follows:
– Week 1: Leadership & Team work – Children were put into even groups of pupils from the different classes. They had to work together, share how they felt playing with each other & what they learned from each other.
– Week 2: PE & Me – This involved the children playing different games having fun through music. After the lesson the children then had to talk about how they feel about PE. The teacher led this section as it linked in with their literacy theme as well as Personal Development & Mutual Understanding.
– Week 3: Me, My Heart & I – This lesson was all to do with how their body reacts when they exercise. What happens with their heart? How can we check our pulse & what does it tell us? Why do we sweat? Why do we breathe heavy during exercise? Why do some of our faces go red during exercise? This week was a continuation of the Health Speak Days that Owen does in the schools already.
Pictured are the P2, P3 & P4 children who took part as well as the fantastic teachers Mrs Mary Cullen, Mrs Leanne Maguire & Classroom Assistant Miss Siobhan Martin who really embrace the work Ulster GAA are doing as part of the Sport in Schools Programme from DENI.
