World Police and Fire Games

April 25th, 2013

wpfg-2013The World Police and Fire Games is a biennial sporting event for serving and retired police, fire, prison and customs officers.

In 2013 Belfast will host the games and it is anticipated there will be 10,000 athletes competing from all over the world.

There are approximately 60 sports across 42 world class venues.

Gaelic football will take place at Queens University Playing Fields, Upper Malone and this will be the 3rd time Gaelic Football has been offered as a sport at the games.

It is anticipated that because the games are being held in Ireland for the first time that this event will be particular popular with our local police, fire and prison officers north and south.

Based on previous games in Vancouver and New York we are expecting teams to travel from North America, Australia and UK for the Gaelic Football tournament. The format will be 7 a side and competitions are offered for Men’s 18+, Men’s 35+ and Women’s 18+.

Handball is also on offer at the games in one wall and four wall formats. This event will take place at Queen’s University Physical Education Centre. Competitions will be offered for a wide age range for both men and women in singles and doubles formats.
