Gerry Doherty to seek Ladies Football Presidency
Armagh’s Gerry Doherty is to run for the post of National President at the Ladies Annual Congress which will be held in Wexford on the weekend of 7th, 8th and 9th March.
The Mullaghbawn native is ideally placed for the position due to his experience and knowledge of the ladies game. Gerry was Ulster President for three years and has served on numerous committees at club, county, provincial and national level. He is currently a national referee assessor, chairman of the Ulster PR, Finance and Marketing committee and an All Star selector.
Having recently retired from his teaching post, Gerry also has the time and energy for this demanding position. Gerry’s wife Rosemary and football playing daughter Danielle are also supportive of his quest for the top position in the ladies game.
If Gerry is to become only the second National President from Ulster (Tom Dowd – Cavan was the other) then he will have to fight off competition from the Leinster President Marie Hickey and the National Development Officer Con Moynihan.
The Ladies Ulster Council are fully behind Gerry’s quest and wish him all the very best at Congress in Wexford.
