Cúrsa Cuimhneacháin Shéamuis de Faoite 2016 Launched
Michael Hasson, Uactarán Chomhairle Uladh CLG was in Downing on Friday 6th May to officially launch the Irish language course which is sponsored by the Ulster Council of the GAA.
The launch was also attended by members of Coiste Chúrsa Cuimhneacháin Shéamuis de Faoite, members of the Downings GAA club executive and Máire de Faoite.
This year’s course will run from Monday 18th July (The day after the Ulster football final) until Friday 22nd July. The course which has been renamed after one of its original founders is now known as Cúrsa Cuimhneacháin Shéamuis de Faoite.
2016 marks the 28th consecutive year for this course which is designed to improve the level of Irish for adult members of the GAA. There are three levels ranging from the Bun Rang for beginners to the Meán Rang or Intermediate level for those who have a reasonable degree of Irish and Ard Rang for those who are proficient in Irish and simply want to brush up on and use their language skills.
Classes are run each day by qualified teachers from 10.30am to 3.15pm and this is followed each day by singing and céilí dancing classes from 3.30pm to 5.00pm. Entertainment which is provided each evening includes:
- An evening of Questions & Answers,
- A Scór Concert in the Beach Hotel in Downings,
- A Lecture about the 1916 rising,
- Ceilí Mór in the Downings GAA hall with the Duntally Ceilí Band
On the final night there is a banquet and music in the Beach Hotel in Downings. All classes are free of charge and are open to adult members of an Chumann Lúthchleas Gaeil.
