Slaughtneil became the first Derry club to win an Ulster senior hurling title when they defeated Loughgiel in the AIB Ulster Club Senior Hurling Final at the Athletic Grounds Armagh yesterday with a full-time result of 2-14 to 1-13.

Early goals from Cormac O’Doherty and Brendan Rogers got Slaughtneil off to a great start putting them 2-03 to 0-00 in front after 10 minutes.

At half-time Slaughtneil were leading by seven points. A Loughgiel goal from Joey Scullion could not bridge the gap with 14 minutes left to go and Slaughtneil held on to claim their first Ulster Club Senior Hurling final victory.

Meanwhile the Ulster Club Senior Camogie Final between Slaughtneil and Loughgiel ended in a draw with 1-08 apiece.

The result from the Ulster Club Junior Hurling semi final was Lamh Dhearg (Aontroim) 1-12 to Inniskeen (Muineachan) 2-06.
