A very successful and enjoyable day was had at Garvaghey GAA Complex, Tyrone recently as the Further Education Colleges from around Ulster competed in the men’s 7’aside football competition.

Representatives from North Regional College Magherafelt, Southern Regional College, Armagh and Lurgan, Southwest College Dungannon and Omagh plus players from Monaghan IT and Cavan IT served up some highly competitive, fast flowing and enjoyable football.

There was three groups, two of the groups had  three teams with a group of four playing a round robin format. The best team in each group plus the best runner up, then formed a strong group which contested for the Further Education Cup. This was played out as a semi- final and final.  This group consisted of North Regional College 2nd’s, Monaghan IT, South West College Dungannon and Cavan IT.

NRC beat Dungannon and Cavan IT beat Monaghan IT in what was a typical Cavan v Monaghan affair. Cavan now played NRC in the final. This was a highly entertaining game, NRC pushed a more experienced Cavan team all the way. Cavan took the lead half way through the second half and were able to keep their opponents from scoring a major score to the end. Well done to Cavan IT, captain Conor Mc Crosson who collected the cup from Further Education development officer Gary Mallon

The next best teams in each group then formed another group and these teams played for a shield, in the same format as the first group. This group was SRC Lurgan, SRC Armagh, North Regional College, and South West College Omagh. NRC played Omagh in the final, this was very tight right to the end. Omagh ran out worthy winners, and captain Tiernan Mc Namee collected the cup from Ulster football coaching officer Tony Scullion.
