A large turnout of GAA club and volunteer delegates from across Ulster attended the Club & Volunteer Conference which took place on Saturday October 29th at the Glenavon Hotel, Cookstown.

Communicating your club’s message was the main focus of this year’s event with workshops on volunteering, social media, fundraising, health and wellbeing and Gaeilge sa Chlub. The ‘3 R’s of Volunteering’ workshop advised delegates on ways to increase their effectiveness in recruiting, rewarding and retaining volunteers while the ‘Maximising your Fundraising Potential’ workshop looked at ways in which clubs can plan and manage their fundraising efforts.

The ‘Social Media and Your Club’ workshop examined the challenges of getting key messages out to club members and wider audiences while also considering the safety implications of using social media. The ‘Health is Wealth’ workshop informed delegates on how health and wellbeing initiatives can increase a club’s reach and relevance within the community while ‘Gaeilge sa Chlub’ outlined the ways in which clubs can use cultural activities and heritage of the GAA as a means to involve a wider audience and to strengthen the relationship between people and place.

Keynote speakers Aaron Kernan, Crossmaglen Rangers and Barry McElduff, MLA gave two engaging sessions with both placing great emphasis on the importance of the volunteer at the heart of Club life.
