Gaelcholáiste Dhoire take first hurling title
Danske Bank Reihill Cup final
Gaelcholáiste Dhoire 7-3 Omagh CBS 6-1
Gaelcholáiste Dhoire, in only its second year are beginning to make a mark in Gaelic games. A couple of weeks ago they took their first camogie title with victory over St Columba’s Portaferry and yesterday in MUSA outside Cookstown they came from behind to fend off Omagh CBS and claim their first hurling title.
Indeed no fewer than five of the camogie team started alongside their male classmates, but things didn’t look too good after Omagh CBS full-forward Mícheál McSalaigh opened the scoring with two fine goals.
Indeed McSallaigh went on to complete his hat-trick before the break, but by then An Gaelcholáiste were back in contention due to the hard work of Rónán Mac Conmidhe, Áine Ní Mhuirí, Ruairí Ó Mianáin and Cara Ní Chaollaí and two goals from Senan Glas and Conor Ó Gruagáin.
That meant it was 3-0 to 2-2 at the turnover and the Dungiven based Gaeilgeoirs took the lead at the start of the second half with goals from Ruairí Ó Mianáin and Mikey Ó Cinnéide.
Despite McSallaigh scoring a fourth goal, An Gaelcholáiste managed to keep their control of the game and they finished strongly for a five points’ victory.
