Goals before break sink Keady
Masita All Ireland Post Primary Schools’ Michael Cusack Cup (Senior Hurling)
St Patrick’s Keady 0-15 Scariff Community College 5-17
Four goals in the six minutes before the break dashed the hopes of Danske Bank Casement Cup champions St Patrick’s Keady in this Masita All Ireland Post Primary Schools’ Michael Cusack Cup semi-final in Belfield yesterday evening.
The Ulster champions were keeping pace with their Munster counterparts during the first half and were trailing 0-10 to 0-7 when dangerous corner-forward Mark Rodgers cut in for the first goal in the 25th minute.
Although Fintan Donnelly responded with his fifth point of the half, Ciaran Keenan and Ronan Hayes fired home goals either side of a second green flag for Rodgers and there really was no way back for the south Armagh school on a 4-10 to 0-8 interval score-line.
The Scariff sharp-shooter went on to bring his personal tally to 2-7 during the second half, which was once again evenly contested until a late goal from Martin Walsh gave the score-line a far more one-sided look than the efforts of Keady deserved.
Scarriff CS : Mark Rodgers 2-8, 0-5 frees, Ronan Hayes 1-3, Martin Walsh 1-2, Ciaran Keenan 1-1, Michael Hynds 0-2, Fergus Madden 0-2.
