Cavan set up Maghera semi in Brock
Danske Bank Brock Cup quarter-final :
St Patrick’s Cavan 1-14 St Mary’s Magherafelt 2-6
ST PATRICK’s Cavan pulled away in the second half of this Danske Bank Brock Cup quarter-final in Pearse Og’s Armagh to set up a semi-final meeting tomorrow with another south Derry school St Patrick’s Maghera.
St Mary’s Magherafelt were a tad unlucky at times as they controlled good passages of play but they lacked the sharpness of the Breffni boys in front of the posts.
Key performers for Cavan were Cormac Smith, Fionntan O’Reilly, Colin McKiernan, Jack Tully and Shane Tynan while Darren Higgins, Ryan Lennox, Conleth Mallon and Joe McVeigh were the stand out players for Magherafelt.
At the end of the opening half though the teams were level at 0-6 for Cavan and 1-3 for St Mary’s, Fionntan O’Reilly’s three Cavan points cancelled by Rory Clarke’s goal.
However Cavan started to pull clear during the third quarter with points from Fionntan O’Reilly, Jack Tully and Shane Tynan followed by a Jack Tully goal in the 15th minute. Although Shea McCorry hit back with a goal for the Convent, Cavan hit some fine points to clinch the semi-final spot against the favourites Maghera tomorrow (SATURDAY).
St Patrick’s : Fionntan O’Reilly 0-6, 0-4 free, Caolan McCabe 0-1, Shane Tynan 0-3, Jack Tully 1-2, Liam McEntee 0-1, Colin McKernan 0-1,
