Monaghan goal key to St Pius X making final
Danske Bank Corn Colmcille semi-final
St Pius X Magherafelt 3-9 Holy Trinity Cookstown 1-8
A goal from David Monaghan just before the break was the key score as St Pius X Magherafelt became the first team through to the Danske Bank Corn Colmcille final after an entertaining derby with Holy Trinity Cookstown.
Up until that goal Cookstown had contained them fairly well and were trailing 0-8 to 0-4, with three of their points from the boot of Ronan Smyth. The goal however stretched the interval lead to a safe distance for the winners.
Conleth McGrogan added a second goal ten minutes into the second half just after Jack Martin had got Cookstown going with a couple of points and then Monaghan finished off a great four player break for St Pius X with a third goal.
That meant that Corey McElduff’s goal counted for little and the Magherafelt boys will be playing the winners from Wednesday’s second semi-final between Aquinas Belfast and Patrician Carrickmacross.
