Holders back in Gallagher Cup final
Danske Bank Gallagher Cup semi-final
St Mary’s Belfast 8-16 St Patrick’s Downpatrick 2-4
FIVE minutes into the second half of this Danske Bank Gallagher Cup semi-final in Carryduff yesterday just four points separated the teams and New Kids on the Block St Patrick’s Downpatrick were hurling well.
However Dubhaltach Wilson fired in a 36th minute goal and the floodgates opened as holders St Mary’s shot a further 5-8 to just a single point in reply from the east Down school.
Downpatrick were surprise semi-finalists, but St Mary’s quickly established themselves in the game and two goals from Niall Fallon put them into an interval lead of 2-8 to 1-2, the Downpatrick goal scored by Oisin Coulter.
Coulter scored a second goal on the re-start and Declan Keating added a point as Downpatrick looked like making a game of it.
However once Wilson shot St Mary’s third goal, there was only going to be one winner and Niall Fallon quickly completed his hat-trick with substitute Barra Burns also scoring three goals as the holders made it back into the final.
