St Eunan’s off to great start in MacRory
Danske Bank MacRory Cup
St Eunan’s Letterkenny 2-8 Patrician Carrickmacross 2-5
IN LAST March’s Danske Bank MacLarnon Cup final and replay, St Eunan’s Letterkenny may not have got the rub of the green, but, in their opening game of this season’s MacRory Cup in Drumragh yesterday, things fell into place for them to pick up their first league points.
Patrician High didn’t take advantage of their excellent start that saw goals from Ryan Kennedy and Ryan McNulty in the first quarter, giving them a 2-1 to 0-2 lead.
Ciaran Kilfedder was fouled on his way to goal and Conor O’Donnell stepped up to put away the first of his two first half penalties for Letterkenny. The second came when Pauric McGettigan was fouled and suddenly St Eunan’s were ahead at 2-3 to 2-1.
Each team scored a point each before the break and, although two frees from Sean Jones closed the gap at the start of the second half, St Eunan’s kept their heads and eked out a three points’ win with Cormac Finn, Oisin Cassidy and the scorers most impressive.
Patrician simply lost their way but the play of the like of Shane Hanratty, Liam óg Murray and Jack McGeown suggests that they will still be a force in the competition.
St Eunan’s : Conor O’Donnell (2-2, 2-0 pens, 0-1 free), Shane O’Donnell (0-3), Pauric McGettigan (0-3, 0-1 free).
Patrician : Ryan Kennedy (1-0), Ryan McNulty (1-0), Sean Jones (0-2 frees), Ryan Farrelly (0-1), Oisin McMahon (0-1), Joshua Oates (0-1).
