No problems for St Ronan’s in MacRory
Danske Bank MacRory Cup
St Ronan’s Lurgan 4-18 St Mary’s CBGS 1-7
HOGAN Cup champions St Ronan’s Lurgan bounced back from defeat to Omagh CBS in the opening round of this season’s Danske Bank MacRory Cup by eclipsing St Mary”s CBGS in Ahagallon yesterday.
Honest endeavour from the Belfast boys was just not enough against players who had accumulated a lot of experience on last year’s run and the Lurgan side went in at the break leading by 0-9 to 0-3 with two points each for Jack Conlon, Cian France and Rioghan Crawford.
However St Ronan’s opened up the game for the second half, creating plenty of space up front which James McCormack exploited. The Ballyhegan club man fired in 3-4 with Jack Conlon chipping in with St Ronan’s third goal.
However Ruairí Hamill managed to break the Lurgan defensive system 10 minutes from time for a goal for St Mary’s CBGS, but it was too little too late and the Belfast boys will not relish their final outing against Omagh next week.
