St Michael’s Enniskillen reach MacCormack Cup semis
Danske Bank MacRory Cup
Nov 21st in Killeshil : St Michael’s Enniskillen 2-14 St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon 0-8
UNLESS St Colman’s Newry win their derby tomorrow (FRIDAY) with Abbey CBS by an unlikely margin of 30 points, St Michael’s Enniskillen have played themselves into the MacCormack Cup semi-final as well as MacRory Cup quarter-final in February by virtue of this comfortable win over the Academy in Killeshil yesterday.
By contrast the Academy must survive a play-off the week after next, probably against St Mary’s CBGS, to remain in the competition through to 2019.
St Michael’s played with the advantage of the strong breeze during the opening half and led by 1-9 to 0-2 at the break with three points each for Dara McBrien and Mícheál Glynn. The goal, created by Brandan Horan and Ryan McGovern, was neatly finished to the net by Conor Love in the 15th minute.
The Academy started the second half brightly and two points each from Ryan McCabe and Ronan McHugh had reduced the deficit to 1-11 to 0-6 by the 40th minute.
However Enniskillen then broke on a move involving five players and Joe McDade was on the end of it to fist the ball to the net and effectively kill off the Dungannon challenge.
St Michael’s then raised their game again for the last quarter and Glynn, McBrien and Josh Largo-Ellis all added points with only McHugh and McCabe adding to the total for the wind-assisted Academy.
St Michael’s : Joe McDade 1-1, Dara McBrien 0-5, Mícheál Glynn 0-5, 0-3 frees, Josh Largo-Ellis 0-2, 0-1 free, Caolan Duffy 0-1.
St Patrick’s Academy : Ryan McCabe 0-5, 0-2 frees, Ronan McHugh 0-3, 0-1 free.
