Ballybay and Mulligan impress in O’Doherty semi
Danske Bank O’Doherty Cup semi-final :
Ballybay CC 4-18 Moville CC 0-4
BALLYBAY Community College certainly put down a definite marker yesterday in Garvaghey with a runaway win over Moville CC in the semi-final of the Danske Bank O’Doherty Cup.
In hindsight Moville contained them fairly well during the opening half, but the Monaghan side still turned over with a lead of 0-8 to 0-2, five of the points coming from Darragh Dempsey.
Dempsey continued to impress during the second half bringing his tally to 0-11, but he still wasn’t top scorer for his team. That honour went to Aaron Mulligan who picked up the Cormac McAnallen award for Young Achiever of 2018 on Friday evening at the Ulster GAA Writers’ Annual Dinner.
Half-forward Mulligan scored four goals and a point in the second half to add to the two points he had posted before the break. All four were expertly finished during the last quarter but the second and third were a result of turnovers around midfield and good work in the build ups from Shane Slevin and Joel Wilson.
Enda McPhilips, Darragh McElearney, Joseph Duffy and Patrick Quinn were others to catch the eye for Ballybay while Moville were left fire-fighting as the game wore on with Ronan Hoy, Josh Conlon and Eoin O’Doherty their best players on the day
The second semi-final takes place tomorrow (Friday, 1.30pm) also in Garvaghey between St Aidan’s Cootehill and Coláiste Ailigh Letterkenny
