Scór Uladh mark 50th Anniversary with Celebratory Concert
Dún Uladh rang out with the sound of music on Saturday night when All Ireland Champions from all counties in Ulster took to the stage at the Scór Caoga Celebration Concert. This concert was a very fitting celebration for the Golden Jubilee Year of Scór.
The evening began with a ‘Cead Míle Fáilte’ from Paula Magee (Cathaoirleach – Coiste Scór Uladh). Michael Geoghegan (Comhairle Uladh) and Aidan Brennan (Cathaoirleach Coiste Naisiúnta Scór) were among the special guests present on the night.
A special welcome was extended to Anthony Williamson (Rostrevor). Tony, as he is fondly known in Down GAA circles, was involved in the founding of Scór 50 years ago.
Michael Geoghegan, representing the Ulster Council, made a special presentation to Tony and following an eloquent address from Tony the entertainment commenced.
The entertainment included dancing, singing, duets, ballad groups, recitations, instrumental music and some very entertaining stage presentations from All Ireland champions past and present.
Steven Hughes and Áine Uí Coinn set the perfect tone as event comperes. All those present enjoyed an evening of fun and laughter and at the interval had the opportunity to meet up with friends for refreshments and some reminiscing.
Occasions like this don’t just happen – a lot of organising and planning is required. Great credit is due to Coiste Scór Uladh and the members of the host club and county led by Dónal Magee. After these celebrations Scór is sure to flourish in the province of Ulster for many years to come.
