Tyrone advanced to the quarter-final of the Ulster Senior Football Championship but only after a scare from neighbours Derry in Omagh.

A Darren McCurry goal eight minutes from time proved crucial for Tyrone who had fallen behind for the first time in the game just moments beforehand.

Tyrone had begun the better of the two sides and opened an early lead thanks chiefly to Cathal McShane and Richard Donnelly.

Derry kept in touch thanks to the accuracy of Shane McGuigan and Ryan Bell and trailed at the interval 0-10 to 0-7.

The beginning of the second half saw points from Michael Cassidy and McShane. Derry didn’t fold and thanks to a Shane McGuigan goal they moved level.

Christopher Bradley gave Derry the lead before the intervention from McCurry who Tyrone back in the ascendancy and they didn’t look back.

Tyrone now advance to play Antrim on Saturday 25th May.
