Tyrone advance to the Electric Ireland Ulster Minor Football Championship
Tyrone advanced to the semi-final of the Electric Ireland Ulster Minor Football Championship thanks to a 1-15 to 1-10 victory over Down.
The young Red Hands were made to work for their win however and a John McGovern goal early in the second half for Down left Tyrone adrift and seemingly struggling.
Mark Devlin proved to be their hero however keeping his side in touch in the opening half with a string of scores as they trailed at the break 0-8 to 0-6.
Down spread their scores around with Cian McLoughlin hitting a pair of beautiful points while Adam Crimmins was also on target.
It was the Moortown man Devlin who struck for goal for Tyrone after good work from Michael McGleenan winning a turnover for Tyrone in the build-up.
That strike knocked the stuffing from Down and scores from Danny Fullerton and Luke Donnelly sealed the Tyrone win.
Tyrone will now play Derry in the semi-final.
