Dún na nGall are Ulster champions for 2019

June 23rd, 2019

A stunning opening half performance from Donegal propelled them to back to back Ulster Senior Football titles as they overcame Cavan 1-24 to 2-16.

A Jamie Brennan goal midway through the second half was the all-important score at a time when Cavan were threatening to getting back into the game.

For Donegal they had eleven scorers over the 70 minutes with Patrick McBrearty and Brennan in particular proving to be a thorn in the side.

Donegal raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after twelve minutes with Ryan McHugh and Eoghan Ban Gallagher among the scorers.

Cavan were struggling on their kick-outs and this gave Donegal the base they needed to open a 0-13 to 0-5 lead at the break.

Only Gearoid McKiernan and Dara McVeety offered any resistance for Cavan but Brennan’s goal extinguished any hopes they had of victory.

Cavan had late goals from Conor Madden and Stephen Murray but McBrearty, captain Michael Murphy and Brennan had helped Donegal into an unassailable lead.
