Big MacRory statement from Maghera

November 28th, 2019

Danske Bank MacRory Cup
Wednesday 1pm in Galbally :
St Patrick’s Maghera 8-18 St Patrick’s Cavan 2-9
GOALS rained in Galbally yesterday but unfortunately for St Patrick’s Cavan eight of the ten scored went the way of Maghera who move to the top of the Group B table with St Eunan’s Letterkenny still to play them at the start of next week.
Maghera got off to a flier and were 2-3 to 0-1 up after ten minutes, Marc Dixon with an early goal and then he added a second after Sean Kearney picked him out with a quickly taken short free.
Cavan rallied however and, with the help of a goal from Oisin Brady, out-scored their opponents by 1-5 to 1-3 over the next ten minutes in a surprisingly an open attacking game of football.
That left it 3-5 to 1-6, but Maghera pulled away with an unanswered 2-4 before the break, Kearney and Cahir Higgins netting the goals.
Marc Dixon completed his hat-trick with a goal in the 33rd minute as Maghera quickly added 1-3. Eventually Oisin Brady hit back with his, and Cavan’s, second goal just after the 40 minute mark.
But Maghera were finding holes in, by now, a demoralised Cavan defence. Charlie Diamond brought his total to 1-4 with a neat finish and Kearney was goal-bound as he burst through the middle close to the end.
He was pulled back, a penalty resulted and he confidently netted it to complete a scoring total that other teams with Cup aspirations in March will have noted with interest.
