Donaghmore through in Sciath
Danske Bank Sciath na nÓg semi-final
St Joseph’s Donaghmore 0-11 St Mary’s Magherafelt 1-5
DESPITE conceding a first half goal, St Joseph’s Donaghmore reached the Danske Bank Sciath na nÓg final for the first time ever with this 0-11 to 1-5 win over St Mary’s Magherafelt in the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown yesterday.
Magherafelt’s goal was scored by Ben McLarnon after a high ball into the goal area was flicked on by Ryan O’Neill. Charley Curley and Caolan McNicholl played well for St Mary’s across both halves.
However overall St Joseph’s were that bit more composed in possession and goalie Leo Quinn, Jack Kelly and Teaghan Burns in defence, John McKenna in midfield and Joseph Corrigan and Leo Hughes up front pushed them forward and they led by 0-8 to 1-2 at the break.
Honours were even during the second half at three points each, but Donaghmore’s narrow lead rarely looked under pressure.
In the other side of the draw, the quarter-final between Scoileanna Inis Eoghain and Our Lady’s Castleblayney was postponed until next Monday and the winners will play St Ronan’s in the semi-final later next week.
St Joseph’s : Joseph Corrigan (0-3), Noah Grimes (0-3), Conor O’Neill (0-3), Dara Donaghy (0-1), Jamie McCarthy (0-1)
St Mary’s : Ben McLarnon (1-3), Michael Walls (0-1), Conal Higgins (0-1)
