St Ciarán’s & St Colm’s in Arthur’s final;

A SUPERB team performance from St Colm’s Draperstown in the Mid Ulster Sports’ Arena yesterday booked a spot in next week’s Danske Bank Arthurs Cup after the south Derry side defeated Dean Mag Uirc Carrickmore by ten points.
The spine of the team was impressive from Conor Shields at full-back, through Andrew McBride, Mark Wilson and Ryan McElhennon to full-forward Ryan McCullagh.
Carrickmore’s cause wasn’t helped by the loss of centre-forward Lorcan McGarrity after ten minutes to a suspected broken wrist, although they did have good performances from goalie Gary McAleer, Colm McCrory, Ronan Fox and Michael Rafferty.
St Colm’s were well in control at the break leading by 0-9 to 1-2, with three of those points coming from Aodhan McCallion, while Colm McCrory gave Carrickmore a glimmer of hope with his goal.
However Draperstown pushed on in the second half and there was no way back for Carrickmore after Fergal Bradley fired to their net with midfielder Mark Wilson capping a good individual performance with two points.
The second semi-final could well deliver an all-Derry final as today in the Loup St Columb’s Derry take on St Ciarán’s Ballygawley at 12.30pm.

St Ciarán’s Ballygawley 1-13 St Columb’s Derry 2-7
ST CIARÁN’S Ballygawley came from five points down at the break to beat St Columb’s Derry in the Danske Bank Arthurs Cup semi-final at the Loup yesterday.
In a game of two halves, St Columb’s used the breeze to take an interval lead of 2-4 to 0-5 with both goals scored by Oran O’Kane.
For the first after nine minutes, a high ball into the goal area was blocked down and he managed to toe-poke it to the net. His second was brilliantly executed, coming in off the right wing and firing a thunder-bolt to the top corner.
Ruairí Canavan kept St Ciaran’s in touch with three first half points, but it was his goal four minutes into the second half that really lit up the match; he took on two defenders in the right corner and fired to the roof the net.
St Columb’s refused to back down though and two points from Caolán Hargan kept them ahead before Canavan levelled in the 48th minute.
Although Evan McMenamin responded with a point for St Columb’s, Ballygawley rallied and hit the last four points, two for the wily Canavan and one each for Barry Carberry and James Donnelly.
St Ciaran’s will now play St Colm’s Draperstown who also racked up 1-13 in beating Carrickmore on Monday.
