Faul Cup quarter-final line up announced
Following recent play-off games and a final game in Group A of the Danske Bank Faul Cup yesterday, the 20 teams that began the competition at Halloween have been whittled down to the last eight for quarter-finals during the second week of January.
A 3-14 to 2-8 win for Bailieborough Community School over Castleblayney College has set Bailieborough up with a quarter-final against another Cavan school, St Aidan’s Cootehill.
St Aidan’s were beaten in last year’s final but have been looking in great shape this season winning all their Group E games with comfort.
St Catherine’s Killybegs won their derby play-off with Colaiste Ailigh Letterkenny by 4-13 to 3-3 and that puts them into a quarter-final against Coláiste Feirste Belfast who topped Group D.
Things were not just as clear cut in the other play-off game on Friday. Indeed it took extra time before Derry’s Lumen Christi and Sacred Heart Omagh could be separated, Lumen won by 1-13 to 2-9 and will now play Crana College from BunCrana, winners of Group C.
The other Buncrana school, Scoil Mhuire, topped Group B and they will have a difficult enough task against Ballybay Community College.
