Patrician Shock for St Michael’s
Danske Bank MacRory Cup
Friday 6th December in Clones:
Patrician High Carrickmacross 3-8 St Michael’s Enniskillen 0-13
PATRICIAN High Carrickmacross followed the pattern set earlier in the week by Abbey CBS and St Eunan’s Letterkenny and delivered a shock result in this the last game of the group stages of the Danske Bank MacRory Cup yesterday in St Tiernach’s Park Clones.
Goals in the opening quarter from Sean Jones and Liam McDonald got Patrician off to a great start and they settled well to dominate the opening half and led by 2-6 to 0-5 at half-time, with Mícheál Glynn scoring three times to pull St Michael’s back into the game.
The first 25 minutes of the second half belonged to Enniskillen with Jack Largo-Ellis, Glynn and Joe McDade doing most to close the gap. Indeed they managed to draw level with a few minutes remaining, Glynn’s 45 capping a great fight-back.
However Patrician worked the ball up-field at the death and won a free that McDonald converted. From the kick-out, Carrickmacross won the ball, worked it around and eventually found an opening for Diarmaid Marron to fire to the net to seal the victory.
This result did not move Patrician off the foot of the Group D table but it will boost them ahead of the January eliminator against Cathair Dhoire and they will be pleased in particular with the performances of Ciaran Finnegan at midfield and Conor Cumiskey who did well on Glynn as well as the goal-scorers.
St Michael’s : Mícheál Glynn (0-7, 0-4 frees), Tom Keenan (0-2), Conor Burns (0-1), Finian O’Brien (0-1), Lucas McCusker (0-1 free), Joe McDade (0-1).
Patrician : Liam McDonald (1-4, 0-2 frees), Sean Jones (1-1), Diarmaid Marron (1-0), Ryan Farrelly (0-2), Donnach Swinburne (0-1)
