Strong Finish from Omagh in MacRory

December 2nd, 2019

Danske Bank MacRory Cup
Monday 2nd December 5pm in MUSA :
Omagh CBS 1-13 St Patrick’s Armagh 0-10
WHEN St Patrick’s Armagh scored six unanswered points during the third quarter to go 0-10 to 0-6 ahead, it looked very likely that the boys from Cathedral Hill were going to claim top spot in Group C and move into the MacCormack Cup semi-finals in January.
But that is not how this Danske Bank MacRory Cup tie in the Mid Ulster Arena finished. Remarkably Omagh CBS recovered their composure and finished with a goal and seven points without reply to take the top spot, sending Armagh through in second to set up a quarter-final play-off against either Abbey CBS or Inis Eoghain at the end of January.
It was a strange second half to a game that was evenly contested during the first which ended 0-5 to 0-4 in favour of Omagh with Ciaran Daly edging the Tyrone side ahead a couple of minutes before the short whistle.
Daly, Ruairí Donnelly, Seanie O’Donnell and Conor McGillian were showing well for Omagh during that period while Oisin Conaty and Maark McKeever were delivering for Armagh.
Then Armagh took off with points from Steve Donaghy, Kevin Robinson (2), McKeever (2) and Matthew Lennon and the West Tyrone team looked in trouble.
Eventually however points from Peter McGlynn and Daniel Fullerton got them up and running again and a beautiful length of the field move ended with Fullerton fisting across the area for Eoin McShane to palm to the net.
And Omagh pushed on from there with five more points including three from Fullerton, one of which came from a free.
Omagh : Eoin McShane (1-1), Danny Fullerton (0-6, 0-1 free), Peter McGlynn (0-2), Conor McGillian (0-2), Eoin Montgomery (0-1 free), Ciaran Daly (0-1)
Armagh : Mark McKeever (0-4), Oisin Conaty (0-2), Kevin Robinson (0-2, 1 free), Steve Donaghy (0-1), Matthew Lennon (0-1)
