Ulster GAA Coaching and Games Technical Skills Webinar Programme now open
The Ulster GAA Coaching and Games Technical Skills Webinar Programme, in association with O’Neill’s Sportswear, is now open for registration.
Beginning at the end of this month and running through to next March, the programme is a series of six online webinars that will look at the key skills of Gaelic Football.
Each webinar will dissect specific football skills into the key coaching points and look at best practice in breaking down and building technical proficiency in underage players.
The programme is particularly focused on Coaches operating at underage club level, but may also be of interest to adult club coaches.
Why we are delivering this…
Technical proficiency is the bedrock for players, whose first touch and skill level will enable them the time to make better decisions in the heat of battle. As such, the standard of our games is improved.
What the workshops offer…
The six workshops are dedicated to breaking down and rebuilding the key skills. Coaches that are familiar the key coaching points are better able to fix common errors.
How to get involved…
Each of the virtual webinars will take place at 7.30pm and will require pre-registration via Eventbrite. The registration links are below, and will be promoted via Ulster GAA Twitter and Facebook channels in the coming months.
Webinar 1 – 7.30pm Wednesday 28th October: Kicking for Possession:
One of the key skills used to retain and distribute possession in Gaelic football is the foot pass. This webinar will look at how this skill has evolved in recent times. It will also look at the various kick passes used and the key coaching points for each. We will use a combination of video clips, coaching cards and games-based activities to build proficiency in this skill. At the end of this webinar, coaches will know the coaching points of kicking and be able to coach these skills through various activities.

Webinar 2 – 7.30pm Wednesday 18th November: Hand/Fist Pass & Solo:
Two of the key skills used to retain and distribute possession are the hand/fist pass and the solo (toe-tap and bounce). In this webinar, we will look at these skills and the key coaching points for each. We will use a combination of video clips, coaching cards and games-based activities to build proficiency in this skill. At the end of this webinar, coaches will know the coaching points of hand passing and soloing and be able to coach these skills through various activities.

Webinar 3 – 7.30pm Wednesday 2nd December: Tackling & Evasion:
Key skills for contesting possession and evading opponents are in the Tackling & Evasion webinar, where we will look at these skills in depth and the key coaching points required for each. We will use a combination of video clips, coaching cards and games-based activities to build proficiency in these skills. At the end of this webinar coaches will know the coaching points of the tackle and evasion and will be able to coach these skills through various activities.

Webinar 4 – 7.30pm Wednesday 20th January: Kicking for Scores:
Possibly the most important skill in Gaelic Football is being able to kick scores. This webinar will look at various kicks used for scoring and the key coaching points for each. We will use a combination of video clips, coaching cards and games-based activities to build proficiency in this skill. At the end of this webinar coaches will know the coaching points for kicking scores and be able to coach these skills through various activities.

Webinar 5 – 7.30pm Wednesday 10th February: Catching:
One of the key skills used to gain possession in Gaelic football is the catch. This webinar will look at the various types of catch and the key coaching points for each. We will use a combination of video clips, coaching cards and games-based activities to build proficiency in this skill. At the end of this webinar coaches will know the coaching points of the various catches and be able to coach these skills through various activities.

Webinar 6 –7.30pm Wednesday 3rd March: Crouch Lift & Blocking:
Key skills for gaining and contesting possession are the crouch lift and the block. This webinar will explore these skills and the key coaching points for each. We will use a combination of video clips, coaching cards and games-based activities to build proficiency in these skills. At the end of this webinar coaches will know the coaching points of the Crouch Lift and the Block and will be able to coach these skills through various activities.
