Goals galore as Holy Trinity open with a win
Holy Trinity College Cookstown opened their Danske Bank UK MacRory Cup campaign with victory over St.Macartan’s College Monaghan this afternoon at Gavan Duffy Park Monaghan Harps GAA, largely thanks a Shea Quinn hat-trick.
There was no sign of the goal fest that lay head when St Macartan’s led by two points with 10 minutes of the opening half remaining. But when they were reduced to 14 men following a black card, Holy Trinity took full advantage with scores from Ryan Quinn and Peter Loughran opening at 0-6 to 0-4 lead at the break for the Cookstown side.
Quinn then opened his account with two well taken goals, the second a penalty, to put some daylight between the sides. Jake Hughes hit back with a goal for the Monaghan men, before the game was held up following a serious injury to HTC defender Cathal Heagney. When play resumed, Quinn completed his hat-trick, with Jack Martin and Shea Lawn also finding the net to seal a comfortable win.
Holy Trinity: Shea Quinn 3-2, 1-0 pen, 2f, Jack Martin 1-1, Shea Lawn 1-0 pen, Ryan Quinn 0-2, Peter Loughran 0-2.
St Macartan’s: Jake Hughes 1-0, Sean Callan 0-4 (3f), Michael Hamill 0-2, Dara McKenna 0-1 (f)
