Maghera edge low scoring encounter

November 24th, 2021

?
Scores were at a premium this afternoon in Edendork Gac, as St Patrick’s College, Maghera got the better of St Ronan’s College Lurgan in the opening game of Danske Bank UK MacRory Cup Section B.
A strong opening quarter from Maghera was the difference, where points from Shea McKenna (free), Luke Diamond and Tiarnan McCormick helped open a lead they would maintain throughout.
With St Ronan’s wasteful infront of goal, an excellent score from Ruairi Magill just before half time saw the Derry side lead 0-6 to 0-2 at the break.
On the restart, Diamond traded scores with Rogan McVeigh to maintain that four point lead at the second water break, before Lurgan staged a strong finish. Ethan McKenna, Thomas Mallon and Jonathan Hannon were all on target, with Hannon unlucky not to find the net when he flicked on a long ball in the closing moments.
St Patrick’s: Shea McKenna 0-4 (3f), Luke Diamond 0-2, Tiarnan McCormick 0-1, Patrick McGurk 0-1, Ruairi Magill 0-1.
St Ronan’s: Oran McCafferty 0-2 (1m), Rogan McVeigh 0-2 (1f), Jonathon Hannon 0-1, Ethan McKenna 0-1, Thomas Mallon 0-1
