Omagh lay down marker with impressive win
Five minutes of magic before half from CBS Omagh turned this Danske Bank MacRory Cup tie on its head as they powered past St. Michael’s College, Enniskillen at Ederney St Josephs GAC this afternoon.
The teams were tied at 0-3 a piece after 25 minutes, with all the Enniskillen scores coming from the boot of Diarmuid King. Then came the Omagh onslaught.
Dara Hayes was the first to find the net, a rocket to the top corner. That was followed by two goals for captain Conor McGillion and a fourth from Paddy McCann leaving Omagh 4-04 to 0-3 ahead at the break.
Somehow the Fermanagh men rallied themselves for the second half, with Fionan O’Brien and Micheál Flannagan leading the charge. Justin McDaid and Conor O’Hanlon kicked scores for St Michael’s, but McCann was on target again as Omagh kept their foot on the gas to run out impressive winners.
St Michael’s: Diarmuid King 0-3 (2f), Justin McDaid 0-1, Conor O’Hanlon 0-1.
Omagh CBS: Conor McGillion 2-2, Paddy McCann 2-1, Dara Hayes 1-0, Conor Owens 0-3 frees, Eoin McElholm 0-1.
